07 Nov 2009 - A Homeowners Introduction to Traditional Roof and Traditional Window Repairs - Saturday 7th November

The fifth Good as New 2009 Workshop explored the techniques and benefits of repairing traditional roofs and windows in old buildings.

Current interest in old properties has prompted increasing numbers of owners to look for contractors and professionals who understand traditional materials and are knowledgeable about suitable repair techniques.  Through the workshop residents and property owners, of older property's, were able to gain knowledge of traditional building and repair techniques to help them make an informed decision when choosing the right techniques for repairs and maintenance to their property.  This knowledge also helps when choosing the best person to do the work, whether it is an architect, surveyor or builder.

The Good as New 2009 workshop, which was delivered as part of the St Andrew's Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI), was designed to specifically look at traditional roofing and traditional window repairs including looking at controls, grants and the conservation approach.  The morning was classroom based, including looking at roofing traditions of East Yorkshire, Historic Joinery and Damp & Decay.  The afternoon offered practical demonstrations in Traditional Roofing and Traditional Window Repairs.

The workshop, was delivered by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, took place at the Boulevard Village Hall, Boulevard, Hull.

The St Andrew's Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is a grant-giving programme for the repair of the historic environment in the Boulevard and Coltman Street Conservation Area's.  It is being delivered by the Hull & East Yorkshire Community Foundation in partnership with Hull City Council and is joint-funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Gateway.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this workshop so successful.
