Roots and Wings

The Roots and Wings consortium brings together two of the four NPOs in the city, (Hull Truck Theatre and Artlink) alongside two key community and economic development organisations ourselves (Hull and East Yorkshire Community Foundation and Volcom) and Hull City Council. Together, we bring a commitment to artistic excellence and access to a wide and deep network of potential audiences in the city of Hull.

We (the Consortium) will work with a range of local, regional, national and international partner organisation partners to deliver Roots and Wings, encompassing the arts and creative sectors, public sector organisations, private, voluntary and community organisations and companies, audience development agencies and networks, and charities, philanthropic and venture capital agencies. The range and depth of our partnerships will be essential for us to deliver the engagement, excellence and sustainability that is at the heart of the Roots and Wings vision.

Roots and Wings is a fantastic opportunity for local artists and arts organisations to engage with the people of Hull, to provide them with new cultural experiences and to inspire them through the arts. It is funded for 3 years through the Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places Programme and has a 10 year vision of building a confident arts sector with the skills to engage new audiences.

The Roots and Wings programme is designed to build upon the arts offer that is already here within the City whilst at the same time looking at new ways of engaging local people in arts and cultural activities. The Programme therefore welcomes and encourages everyone’s involvement whatever their background or interest as the core principal is that everyone will have something to contribute and something to learn from their participation.

The Business Plan for Roots and Wings has now been agreed and signed off by Arts Council England which means the Programme can now move into its delivery phase.

The Roots and Wings Consortium is currently in the process of recruiting the Team that will deliver the Programme. The Team will include a Project Director and three Project Managers and is expected to be in place by August 2014. In the meantime, however, there will be a number of opportunities for local organisations to find out more about the Roots and Wings Programme and to get involved in early explorative activity that will start to shape and influence the Programme.
